Hello and a big welcome to my new home, This Wilde Love.
I decided to rebrand my blog (previously Pretty Organised Life) as I have been feeling a bit disheartened with the blogging world for some time now, and I needed to revisit ‘why’ I was doing this, and if it was still worth my time and effort.
After a few months of thinking, I finally decided that I wanted to go back to the basics of blogging. Remember when blogs first started, and they were mostly an online diary of-sorts, documenting people’s lives? Most big-time bloggers say that they originally started their blogs as a way to keep interstate or overseas family members up to date with what they had been up to. Slowly, a lot of those blogs have morphed into one big online advertisement for all types of products (nothing against bloggers that do this – if you can make a living from blogging, why wouldn’t you??) and have steered away from storytelling. I found myself not checking in as much with my favourite blogs, as I wasn’t really interested in reading about what their favourite dishwashing soap was, or another ‘how-to’ post (I blame Pinterest for these!). The more I thought about it, I realised that I too had been pulled into this style of blogging. When I look back on this in 10, 20, 30 years time, I don’t really think I will be interested in reading about how I organised under my sink. I will want to read the stories. I would love to be able to turn this into a keepsake memory book in years to come, so whenever I write, I will have that in mind.
I will still share my favourite things from time to time, as well as accept sponsored posts for products I love (I have a few exciting ones already lined up for the coming months), but I will be doing it in a much more understated manner. I am also mindful of my son’s privacy, and while he will definitely be featured on the blog, I will keep his full name private (as well as my husband’s – they have a different surname to me) and as he gets older, I will be respectful of his wishes in being photographed. If I ever feel unsafe sharing our stories, I will simply turn my blog to a private setting. I also decided to move a few posts over from POL that I wanted as a part of this blog, as I felt they contributed to our story so far.
I do hope you will join me as I tell our family’s story.
