Raise your hand if you find baby products confusing and overwhelming? I remember when I was pregnant with Hunter I would spend hours, days or weeks deliberating over certain products (I think his cot was the worst. Especially as the Babyletto I wanted wasn’t available in Australia yet!). As he has gotten older, I have fine-tuned the types of products that work for us (although that didn’t stop me from buying ALL of the sippy cups. Seriously, send help), and thought I would share with you all what has been tried and tested in our house, and has the seal of approval from both Hunter and Myself.
EAT & DRINK
Munchkin Click Lock Weighted Flexi-Straw Cup – I LOVE this sippy cup. The weighted straw means that it works from any angle, and the click-lock system ensures no leaks when we are on the go.
Munchkin Miracle 360 Cup & Miracle 360 Trainer Cup – These are the cups that we use around the house and at meal times. We have both the trainer and regular cups and Hunter loves them. I quite often will interchange the lids, so the smaller size has no handles as Hunter seems to prefer drinking from them holding it like a regular cup. These cups do not spill a single drop, and make the transition to a normal cup very easy!
Munchkin Stay-Put Suction Bowls – Are we noticing a theme here…? Haha when I like a brand I tend to be very loyal, and purchase as much as I can from them. These bowls do exactly what they say they will do.. and actually stay-put. The 3 different sizes are perfect for different meal times and snacks.
Make My Day Bib – These bibs are amazing (not to mention super cute!) and seem to catch all of the mess. This was a gift from one of my school mums when I was pregnant, and I am so glad I received it, as I likely wouldn’t have tried it on my own accord!
L’il Fraser Comforter – This guy and Hunter are absolute best friends. ‘Puppy Doggy’, as he is known in our house, generally stays in Hunter’s cot, but will from time to time, sneak his way out. I gave Hunter a ‘choice’ when it came to choosing a comforter by placing 3 different toys in his bed once he was unswaddled and capable of moving them around himself. After about 3 months, he had an obvious attachment to the L’il Fraser Comforter, so now he just sleeps with one. I personally like this comforter because it consists of different fabrics for children to stroke. Hunter goes straight for the silky corners when he needs comfort or is falling asleep.
Ollie the Owl by The Gro Company – If you are a regular reader of my blog, you may be familiar with this great product already. Hunter has been sleeping with Ollie for the past few months now, and we absolutely love him. I think this would make a really great Baby Shower gift!
The Gro Company GroEgg 2 – Another favourite from this great company is the new and improved Gro Egg version 2. I purchased a Gro Egg for Hunter’s nursery before he was born, and always found it helpful, especially in the warmer and cooler months when it can be tricky to know how much heat or cooling the nursery needs. The GroEgg 2 is slightly bigger than the original, and much sleeker looking (perfect for a minimalist look!) It has a USB lead, soft-touch silicone shell, an adjustable brightness with 4 different levels and a digital thermometer that is displayed very clearly on the bottom of the GroEgg. The colour that is displayed refers bag to The Gro Company’s Tog system, so it is easy to figure out what to dress Hunter in for his naps as well as overnight. It also is bright enough to double as a nightlight which means less clutter in the Nursery! (which I am all about).
OUT AND ABOUT
Skip Hop Back Seat Car Organiser – This is quite a recent purchase and it has been so handy! Now that Hunter only has one proper day sleep, I don’t want him falling asleep in the car. I used to be very relaxed about this as he was having 3 sleeps a day up until around 10/11 months of age. This Organiser has a clear pocket that holds an iPad that I will pop on for Hunter if we in the car close to his nap time so he doesn’t fall asleep. Not everyone will agree with this, but it works for us and I don’t think there is anything wrong with a little Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in the car from time to time. Besides holding an iPad, I use it to store our other car & travel necessities such as wipes, toys, books and an emergency snack.
BabyZen Yoyo – We have had this stroller since Hunter was about 6 months old and I absolutely love it. Our Stokke Xplory is still our day-to-day stroller, but I have started using the Yoyo for walks to the park with our Samoyed and of course on any trips that we take. There is not one thing I can fault with this stroller, and love that it folds up small enough to be taken as hand luggage on a plane (I try to ensure that we only take one bag each plus the stroller as hand luggage so we aren’t being selfish with the overhead space). It does have a hefty price tag, but compared to similar options on the market, it is by far the best in my opinion. It is very light to steer, has a big canopy for shade, is fully reclinable for naps (because who wants to waste time sitting in a hotel room on a vacation??) and has a very decently sized basket underneath. We went with the grey version and a black frame and I am very happy with that choice!
Fisher-Price Little People Zoo Animal Friends – These are a recent purchase and Hunter LOVES these. I keep a few of them in a little pouch in my handbag to have with us when we are out and about. They are perfect for this as they are super light-weight, and can be wiped down in the instance they are dropped on the floor or covered in food. I am on the hunt for some Disney Little People to add to the mix, but they seem to only be available in The States, with hefty postage fees. If anyone ever spies them in Australia let me know!
Wheely Bug – This was our gift to Hunter for his first birthday. I wanted to get him something that he could use throughout different stages over the next few years. I chose the cute grey mouse and after a bit of research decided to go with the smaller size, despite Hunter being very tall. For the first few weeks of ‘Mousey’s’ life with us, he was pretty much ignored and that was pretty sad. One day Hunter decided to push him everywhere he went (on his knees, not feet) and that has since become one of his favourite indoor activities. Soon he will learn to push it while standing, as well as use it in its intended way haha. It is great for balance and developing a child’s core strength.
Duplo – Who can go past the classic Duplo when it comes to children’s toys? I have a feeling Hunter is going to be a Lego Boy when he is older, and Duplo is such a great way to introduce Lego at a young age. My parents gifted Hunter his Duplo for his birthday and it has been a hit since he opened it. His favourite is the set I linked above as he is quite obsessed with animals at the moment and making their ‘noises’. He does (amusingly) think that the polar bear is our dog, Lady, so makes a dog sound when he is playing with that piece.
Ikea Mula Building Beakers – These were another birthday gift for Hunter from a girlfriend because her daughter loves to play with them. This would be the most used toy that we own, and Hunter is constantly finding new ways to use them and there are several different learning experiences that can be explored with just these beakers alone. If we are heading out to dinner or somewhere indoors where Hunter needs to be entertained, I will always pack these.
And that concludes our list! I didn’t include books in this post as I am planning on writing up an entire article dedicated to children’s books.
What are some of your favourite products? Are any of them on our list?
